Star Shield Extended Warranty Plus Contact (Feb 2017)
In this Contract, the following words have the following meanings:
i) “We”, “us”, “our” refer to the Star Shield authorised retailer
ii) “You “refers to the purchaser of the Warranty
iii) “Equipment” refers to the product purchased from Star Shield authorized retailers
iv) “Repair Value” refers to the cost of the labour and parts for the repair carried out
v) “Warranty” refers to the Star Shield Extended Warranty Contract
vi) “On site” refers to Singapore Main land
2. Customer Responsibility
Before providing your Product for service or replacement, remove any confidential, proprietary or personal information, and removable media, such as CDs, DVDs, PC cards, or mobile internet stick. It is your responsibility to back up the contents of your hard drive(s) and remove any data from parts or your Product being returned before services are performed, including any data you have stored or software you have installed. It is possible that the contents of any hard drive or data storage component will be lost or reformatted in the course of service.
Star Shield will not be responsible for any damage to or loss of any programs, data, or other information stored on any media or any part of any Product serviced.
3. Warranty Coverage
3.1 This Warranty provides the coverage for the repair or replacement of the equipment listed on the sales invoice/receipt for screen damages only. The Warranty coverage shall be in accordance with the Manufacturer’s warranty coverage of the equipment including any exclusion therein provided.
3.2 The period of the Warranty coverage will commence immediately on the 1st day of the invoice/receipt for a period of 1 year. The Warranty coverage for repairs includes the cost of parts and labour.
3.3 Fire, Theft from Home, Flood (including damage caused by landslide as a result of tempest and rainstorm) affecting the Product(s) ("Fire, Theft from Home and Flood")
a. In the event of Fire, Theft from Home and Flood [and the damage (if applicable) is such that it is determined by Star Shield that the Product(s) cannot be repaired (such determination to be final) Star Shield shall compensate the Warranty Holder with gift vouchers the value of which shall not exceed the original device's purchased price.
b. Once the Warranty Holder is compensated by Star Shield under Clause 3.2 a, the Product (s) or any part thereof, if recoverable, shall belong to Star Shield and the Warranty will terminate.
c. In the event of Fire or Flood, if it is determinable by Star Shield that the Product(s) can be repaired. Star Shield shall arrange for the repair of the Product(s), provided that the difference between the costs of the repair and the original device's purchased price, is borne by the Warranty Holder if the costs of the repair exceeds the relevant amount.
d. The references to "Home" in the Warranty refers to the residence of the Warranty Holder.
e. In the event of Theft from Home, the Warranty Holder must make a police report within seven (7) days of the occurrence of the event. A claim will not be accepted if there is delay in making the police report or if the person making the police report is not the Warranty Holder.
3.4 The product coverage is for all Laptops, Computers and Tablets with at least 1 Year Manufacturer’s warranty.
3.5 Where your Product is determined to be defective because of (“Power Surge”) Manufacturer’s defects in materials and workmanship that reveal themselves in normal usage and/or as a result of damage from a power surge occurring during the Term of the Plan, Star Shield will cover the cost of Product repair services. Specifically, this will cover technician and repair service centre labour costs, as well as the cost of replacement parts necessary to restore your Product to normal operating condition.
a. Replacement parts covered may be restricted to refurbished or non-original Manufacturer’s parts and that perform to the Manufacturer’s specifications for the covered Product.
b. This Plan provides power surge protection from the date of purchase of the Product (hardware only).
c. At Star Shield’s option, as opposed to covering the cost of repair, Star Shield may cover the cost of a Replacement Product, though not necessarily of the same brand, not to exceed the original purchase price. Technological advances may result in a Replacement Product with a lower selling price than the original Product.
4. Scope of Warranty
The Warranty is only applicable if all the following conditions are met:
4.1 The equipment is purchased directly from our appointed authorised retailer.
4.2 The equipment is used in Singapore and for personal use only.
4.3 The equipment comes with its respective Manufacturer’s Warranty minimum of 12 months.
4.4 The equipment can be repaired in Singapore (mainland only).
4.5 The Warranty is not transferrable to any third party and no rights or benefits will be given to any third party under the Warranty.
4.6 Star Shield reserves the right to vary or modify the terms and conditions of the Warranty any time without prior notice.
4.7 Customer is not allowed to claim from Star Shield if they were to send the equipment to any service centre for repair that is not authorised by Star Shield.
4.8 Accidental Damage due to the following only:
a.Cracked or Broken screen only by physical impact.
5.1 The Warranty is not applicable to the following conditions:
a. The equipment whose invoice / receipt has been modified or defaced or ruined.
b. Damage or loss caused by events that occur outside Singapore.
c. Damage or loss caused by willfully or recklessly including but not limited to the purposeful act of over-running, broken into half or pieces.
d. Damage or loss caused by fraud and the execution of legal rights by the authorities of Singapore.
e. Any defects that are subject to manufacturer’s recall.
f. Cosmetic, physical damage such as damage to paint work or dents or scratches or crack to the equipment including internally and externally.
g. Repairs done outside Singapore, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
h. Unauthorised modifications or add-on option made to the equipment, failure to follow manufacturer’s installation, operation or maintenance instructions; Repairs performed by any non-authorised repairer. Usage of non-manufacturer/original accessories that cause equipment damage.
i. All software.
j. Any external devices and accessories which includes but is not limited to: power adaptor, power charger, power cord, cables, wires, external keyboard and mouse, remote control and all types of batteries (including re-chargeable).
k. Any forms of liquid damage except flood (Clause 3.3)
l. Damage or loss caused by which includes but not limited to corrosion, battery/acid leakage, animal and insect infestation, misuse, neglect and abuse, fungi, dust, rust, fog, mist and moisture.
m. External faults such as wiring or electrical connection and consequential loss of any kind such as short-circuiting, over-heating and explosion.
n. Equipment that has been diagnosed as not damage / defective may levied a service charge.
o. Equipment used for commercial use, profit or communal use for multi-family housing.
p. Any loss or damage to the equipment resulting from negligence, theft, fire, burnt or flood (Clause 3.3 or whichever applicable).
q. Any loss or damage to the equipment resulting from an act of God (including but not limited to events such as earthquake, tsunami, war, invasion, act of foreign enemy, warlike operations, civil war).
r. Equipment given to you as FREE GIFTS during sales or promotion.
s. Equipment with removed or altered serial numbers.
Our sole obligations are, subject to the exclusions and limitations, to repair the equipment with refurbished, used or third party parts (any brands / models) or to compensate the customer in mode of replacement of equivalent model whichever is applicable subject to 30% excess for repairs / replacement up to damage / replacement accumulated limit up to value of product purchase price in Singapore Dollars from each repair undertaken by Star Shield.
We, at our own discretion will authorise a third party to repair or diagnose the equipment if deemed necessary.
5.3 Replacement Warranty
If the equipment is deemed irreparable or uneconomical repair (such decision to be final), Star Shield will compensate the customer with an equivalent replacement model where the value will not exceed value of product purchase price in Singapore Dollars subject to 30% Excess. Under no circumstance shall we be obliged to make any cash payment as replacement.
5.4 Limitation of Liability
Subject to the foregoing, we will not be liable for any loss of income, loss of profits, delay in rendering the repair service, loss of data or for any indirect or consequential loss or damage or any kind howsoever arising.
We may at our sole discretion, replace the equipment with one of a like kind and quality if the equipment is not repairable or beyond economical repair in the event of such replacement the Warranty shall be terminated immediately.
The total Repair Value undertaken by us under the Warranty shall not exceed value of product purchase price in Singapore Dollars subject to 30% Excess paid by the customer while it is still in force.
The Warranty, once purchased is not refundable in any circumstances. If there is any refund, an administrative charge will be incurred and to be charged to the customer.
This warranty is not an insurance policy but providing for repairs for covered damaged.
5.5 Termination of Warranty
Only one claim for screen is allowed within the 1st Year of the warranty product, upon which only Star Shield Plus ADP scheme will be terminated and void. In the event of a total loss of the equipment due to causes excluded by the Warranty, the Warranty shall be terminated and there shall be no refund of any part of the Warranty Fee. Equipment used in the office or for industrial / commercial purposes are not covered by the Warranty.
The Contract will terminate if any of the following events occur, including but not limited to:
- Discovery of fraud or misrepresentation.
- Disposal, subsequent sale, lost or repossession of the equipment.
- Violation of any of the terms and conditions of the Warranty and the Manufacturer’s Warranty.
5.6 Entire Agreement
With the valid invoice from us or our authorised retailer, these will form the entire agreement between you of this Warranty and us and no other oral or written representations are valid.
5.7 Governing Law
This Warranty is governed by Singapore Law.
5.8 Claims for Star Shield Warranty
If the Warranty is in effect within 1st Year, please call Star Shield Warranty hotline at 6586 7788 during office hours, Mondays to Fridays, 10:00am – 7:00pm (excluding Public Holidays and Eve of Public Holidays) or email to firstname.lastname@example.org for repair authorisation. Repairs without prior authorisation from us will not be covered. All equipment failures must be notified to us within 30 days otherwise they will not be covered.
For all claims, the invoice from us or authorised retailer for the product must be presented.
Customers are advised to consult their Manufacturer’s instructions to determine if the failure to operate is due to controllable circumstances otherwise a service and diagnostic fee may be imposed if the repair is not proceeded with. In such circumstances, the breakdown is not covered under Warranty and the cost of repairs will be charged accordingly.
6. General Terms
In the event that your computer needs to be retained for a Star Shield facilitated repair, you may be eligible for the Star Shield Loan Unit Program. The Star Shield Loan Unit Program is a separate program offered by Star Shield and may be amended or discontinued at any time. Additional terms and conditions apply.
